DESCRIPTION
Grab a cup of tea , this might take a while . Let's start from the beginning . This is a 1959 Martin D-28 that was owned by (Mama) Cass Elliot. In the early 70's she took the guitar to George Gruhn's in Nashville Tenn. and requested a luthier by the name of John Greven to redo the inlay on the guitar to make it look like a Martin D-45 . The Abalone trim on the body is beautiful , according to John Greven the neck inlay pattern is from an Orpheum banjo . The Brazilian Rosewood on the back and sides is stunning with a beautiful grain pattern . The guitar plays perfectly and sounds beautiful . The guitar comes with all the documentation from Gruhn Guitars and a recent email from John Greven himself confirming he did the work for Mama Cass and George Gruhn .There are a few repaired cracks on the shoulders that have been cleated and a small plug filled on the bottom. Apparently Cass Elliot always had the guitar around at parties , she wasn't necessarily a player but we can only imagine who has had their hands on this guitar . Shoot us an email and we can tell you more ! w/no original HSC
